Steel Balcony Balustrading

Project Overview
Background
WC Evans & Sons Ltd were appointed by the London Borough of Croydon to replace existing non-compliant and defective private balcony balustrading at Gatestone Court, Croydon. The original balustrading comprised a steel frame clad with timber slats, which no longer met current fire safety and Building Regulation requirements. The project required a fully compliant replacement solution that would improve safety while offering long-term durability and minimal maintenance.
Solution Provided
WC Evans & Sons Ltd were involved from an early stage and worked collaboratively with the client to develop a compliant and cost-effective solution. A new all-steel balustrading system was designed and installed, complete with a galvanised and powder-coated finish to provide a durable, corrosion-resistant and maintenance-free product.
A structural engineer was appointed to review and approve the design to ensure full compliance with Building Regulations. In addition, detailed 3D fabrication drawings were produced, enabling the client to clearly visualise the finished installation prior to fabrication.
The completed installation has significantly improved fire safety compliance while enhancing the appearance and longevity of the balconies, further demonstrating WC Evans & Sons Ltd’s commitment to quality, collaboration and regulatory compliance.
